ProFractional Laser Skin Resurfacing
What is ProFractional Laser Skin Resurfacing?
ProFractional laser skin resurfacing system is a cosmetic procedure that uses a micro-ablative laser to target your problem areas without the extensive downtime and recovery period associated with traditional laser skin resurfacing. This treatment not only targets your uneven skin tone and texture, but it also helps to prevent signs of aging from appearing in the future by boosting your body’s natural production of collagen and elastin. This means you get long-term results with just a few treatments. The procedure can be used on the face, neck, chest, arms and hands.
Alexander Gross MD Explains How This Laser Works
Dr. Gross, Director of Georgia Dermatology Center in Cumming, Georgia and chairman of the laser licensing committee associated with the 2009 Medical and Laser Act, explains what Micro Laser Peels are, what ProFractional Therapy is and how these procedures can improve the appearance of your skin.
Dr. Gross explains, “The Sciton Erbium Laser can be used to do two different treatments. The first treatment is something called ProFractional laser skin resurfacing which drills tiny little holes to the skin. The word “fractional” means that we’re only resurfacing a fraction of the skin’s surface area. This is a treatment that we use for treating acne scars and fine and deep wrinkles and is an excellent way to go ahead and tighten the skin and give it a young and refreshed appearance.”
Dr. Gross continues, “The other treatment that we can do with this laser is something called the Micro Laser Peel. This peel is skin resurfacing that involves literally peeling the skin away layer by layer. The Micro Laser Peel is a procedure that we use for getting rid of brown spots and for tightening pores and also for treating fine lines and wrinkles. The beautiful thing about this machine is that regardless of whether we are doing a Micro Laser Peel or a ProFractional laser skin resurfacing, we can set the frequency on the laser to do a deeper , more aggressive treatment for people who have more significant issues or we can do very light, mild mellow treatments for patients whose issues are not as significant. The down time can be one or two days for the lighter treatments and as long as five to six days for the more aggressive treatment.”
When is the Best Time to Have ProFractional Laser Skin Resurfacing?
If you’ve considered having laser resurfacing, but hesitated because you didn’t know if it was the right time, it is. At Dr. Alexander Gross’ office, located in Cumming, GA, we encourage our patients to seek laser resurfacing treatments during the late fall, winter, and early spring months for a variety of reasons.
Winter and early spring’s shorter, cold and rainy days make it easier to stay out of the sun than the beautiful 14 hours of sunlight you get midsummer. Therefore, the cooler months automatically offer your skin a level of protection after treatment.
Immediately following your treatment and for a while afterwards, your new skin is much more sensitive to the sun’s UV rays, and when you go outside — even if it’s only for a few minutes — you must wear sunscreen. While sunscreen is still necessary in the winter and on cloudy days, it’s easier than the multiple applications that you must don on a hot summer’s day.
Dr. Gross and his well-trained staff blend current medical techniques and effective cosmetic procedures together allowing them to provide their patients with a variety of advanced dermatology services that deliver impressive and noticeable results.
